Commodore computers and devices

Commodore was one of the most significant home computer manufacturers of the 1980s. The story of the company’s computers began with the PET model, released in 1977, which was aimed specifically at schools and businesses. The VIC-20, introduced in 1980, became hugely popular thanks to its affordable price, but the real breakthrough came with the Commodore 64, released in 1982. It became the world’s best-selling single computer model, and its extensive selection of games and software made it a favorite among an entire generation. In 1985, the Amiga 1000 hit the market, bringing advanced graphics and sound capabilities as well as multitasking to home computers. The Amiga series gained a strong foothold, particularly among gamers, graphic designers, and video production professionals. Commodore also released several other models, such as the Commodore 16, the Plus/4, and the Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200. However, fierce competition from PCs and game consoles, as well as financial difficulties, weakened the company’s position. In 1994, Commodore went bankrupt, but its computers remain a valued part of the history of information technology and are the focus of an active community of enthusiasts.
